FROM THE MANAGER
Wow, fall came in looking a lot like winter! I hope everyone was prepared for the unseasonably cold temperatures. This weather always makes me start thinking about Thanksgiving and Christmas. For me, the fall holidays have always felt more like a time for family gathering than other times throughout the year. It makes me reflect and be thankful for everything in my life, the good and the bad. Sounds a little strange, but without the bad, I may not appreciate the good as much as I do. It also makes me think about the struggles and challenges that others face, and I realize life could be much harder than it is for most of us.
I am thankful for all of you, my GTU Jet family. Without you, we wouldn't be here. I am thankful for the smiles, the laughs, the jokes, the stories, but most of all, I'm thankful for the honor of knowing each and every one of you. You all bring happiness and smiles to us. I am thankful to have such a wonderful extended family.
So, let's talk cold weather. As we all know, weather can do some weird things to aircraft. Metal shrinks and becomes brittle, rubber is more susceptible to tearing and not sealing, fuel is a little more dense, engines are harder to start, and batteries seem to always be dead or weak. So please give yourself a little extra time to prepare your aircraft, do an extended preflight, and check those things that are affected more by cold weather.
Lastly, we have volunteered to assist United K9 Academy, a local program that trains service dogs for military Veterans. Part of the training regime includes exposing the dogs to the sights and sounds of aircraft to make traveling as stress-free as possible for their future owners. When possible, the dogs will board and deplane aircraft while their engines are running. If you are willing to assist with this training, please give us a call so we can put you in contact with the a trainer. We are honored to be a part of anything that helps make life a little easier for our Veterans!
As always, we thank you for the honor of allowing us to serve you!

GTU RUNWAY SAFETY ACTION TEAM MEETING
From the Air Traffic Controllers at Georgetown Municipal Airport:
Runway incursions remain a serious concern nationally. One important component of KGTU's ongoing efforts to improve surface safety at GTU Airport involves conducting a Runway Safety Action Team (RSAT) meeting at least once each year. In conjunction with airport management, the RSAT will be holding a meeting on December 18, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in the terminal conference room.
The purpose of this RSAT meeting is to unite those individuals and organizations that are actively involved in air traffic operations and movement of aircraft, vehicles and equipment on the Airport Operations Area (AOA). Participants are asked to help develop recommendations and solutions to enhance surface safety. Those recommendations serve as the foundation for a site-specific Runway Safety Action Plan.
Please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org. Include the name, organization (if applicable), phone number and email address of those who will be attending.
If you have questions or need more information, please contact David Storey at (512) 868-3580.
