January 2017 Newsletter

Happy New Year!

2017 promises to be a banner-year for GTU Jet! As you know we're ramping up to expand services and make many exciting announcements in the near future. If you're not already following us on social media look for links on the top of this newsletter to find us on your favorite social media platform. You're going to want to hear about our plans as soon as we're ready to roll them out!

Despite construction, airport volume is up as compared to the same period last year. As new taxiways are tied into 18/36 in January, runway closures are anticipated. We'll keep you generally updated on social media, but as always please check NOTAM's for the latest information.

The new above ground fuel farm is coming along nicely and they are expected to come online in January. Above ground tanks make it much easier to spot the rare fuel leak. These and other infrastructure improvements are necessary to improve safety, protect the environment and address aviation needs of the future.

If you ever travel on Lakeway Drive on the south side of the airport may have noticed brush clearing has created an obstacle-free zone (OFZ) on the approach end of runway 29. An OFZ is a 3D volume of airspace below 150 feet above the established airport elevation which protects the transition of aircraft to and from the runway.

These are just a few of the projects underway at Georgetown Municipal Airport. All are focused on airport safety and improving the utility of this invaluable asset for the citizens of Georgetown. That, coupled with the plans GTU Jet has for 2017 makes this a truly exciting time for our airport!

As always... thanks for your business. We truly couldn't do it without you!

Best Regards,

Ken Mabe General Manager

Deirdre Negrete joined the GTU Jet in May of 2016 as a Customer Service Representative.

Deirdre is at GTU Jet on Saturdays, but during the week she works as First Responder/Operator at Austin Cancer Center full time. Her favorite part of working at GUT Jet is working with a great group of people and getting to know our customers.

Deirdre keeps busy spending time with her son Isaiah who is 10, in the 4th grade and wrestles competitively. She also enjoys cooking, traveling and being active with her family & friends.

The next Saturday you are in Georgetown, stop in and say hi to Deirdre!

If you haven't been to Georgetown Square lately, you don't know what you are missing. Busniess is booming and with that we are excited to welcome Mesquite Creek Outfitters. This store has it all... Southern Marsh Clothing, Howler Brothers hats, WhiteWing Label accessories, JordanlovesJames Jewelry, Kula Coolers and so much more! On top of that, there's a bar in the store offering local brews, wines, pizzas and a great meat & cheese board!

Drop in for a beer and say hi to the owners Brad & Cody... They'll even take you fishing!

A new 20,000 gallon tank for Jet-A fuel was lifted by a crane and lowered into place in December. New fuel tanks are part of the ongoing construction to make safety and maintenance improvements and enhance environmental protections at the Airport. The new Jet-A tank and a 15,000 AVGas tank are set to be commissioned in January.
